Art you can use every day
I make curvaceous burnished stoneware pottery glazed with tactile dots and veils in designs inspired by circles, bioscience and imagination.
Meet the artist
42 years ago, I had to choose between a career in science or art. I chose science.
Every day, worked hard in university research, education and leadership and dreamt of being an artist when I retired, taking painting and drawing classes now and again.
One day, I started pottery evening classes and loved learning a new skill throwing on the wheel in a friendly relaxed community.
Because of that, I became more adept and found pottery alleviated the stress of my job and long daily commute.
Because of that, I spent every spare minute at the pottery and started producing pieces I was proud of and started exhibiting
Until finally, I retired early from my academic career to set up Catchpole Saffell Art and become a full-time potter.
Ever since then, I’ve been creating pottery in my garden studio. I’ve been exhibiting at national shows and becoming part of the friendly pottery community.
“I own several pieces by Jane. My first piece was a mug with dripped blue glaze and circles. Since then, I’ve been gifted several bowls, mugs, and a vase. What can I say? I’m obsessed. The pieces are very well made, which I appreciate. It’s great not to have to worry about accidentally breaking them when I am doing the washing up!”
